Overview

254 SMO® (EN 1.4547) is an austenitic stainless steel designed for maximum resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Its high chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen make it the choice for high-chloride environments, salt water solutions and atmospheres, and wherever 1.4404 stainless is not enough.

Surface hardened to at least 600 HV0.05. Laser marking: 254. Standard stock items.

Torque guidelines: stainless steel bolts

Indicative values verified by Nord-Lock in test laboratories, calculated with the Kellerman & Klein formula. GF = preload as % of bolt yield point. µth = thread friction, µh = under-head friction. Cu/C paste = copper/graphite paste (Molykote® 1000); oil = WD-40. Conditions and joint designs vary: ask us for a calculation for your joint. 1 Nm = 0.738 ft-lb.
